Could You Join Us?
At Citizens Advice East Devon we believe our volunteers are at the heart of all we do. We recruit all sorts of different people and they take a number of different roles in our charity, depending on their skills and what interests them. We provide full training and are receptive to developing our volunteers’ expertise if they wish this. Although our volunteers give their time for free, we reimburse reasonable expenses such as travel. We are just embarking on an ambitious new business plan, one of whose key features is the involvement of volunteers at all levels in planning the future direction of the bureau.
We are always looking to recruit new volunteers, so if you think you could give up some of your time to help the East Devon community, please get in touch and we’d love to discuss potential opportunities with you. Citizens Advice East Devon is fully committed to equality and is keen to recruit from all sections of the community. Here are some of the jobs our volunteers do:
Advisors and Gateway Assessors
Advisors and Gateway Assessors assist clients to find the help they need. They come from all sections of the community and full training is given. Many of our advisors choose to specialise in a particular area that interests them, such as housing, benefits, debt and financial management, immigration and so on. Most advisors are based in one of our bureaux or outreach locations and give face-to-face advice, although some choose to give advice over the phone and as our service changes to meet the demands of the modern world, some will move to giving advice via email and webchat.
Our receptionists are the first person a client sees when they walk into a bureau. They play a vital role in making our clients feel welcome and at home. They also deal with appointments and generally help to keep our bureaux running smoothly.
We are always looking to recruit people with relevant skills to support roles within the bureau. Our volunteers help with a whole host of activities from IT to fundraising, from publicity to writing bids for funding. If you think you could help us, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
Our trustees oversee the running of the charity and are responsible for the quality of the service we provide today and for developing the bureau for the future. We actively seek to recruit trustees from all sections of the community with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
Friends of CAED
Our Friends organisation supports the work of Citizens Advice East Devon mainly through fundraising activities. If you are able to give some time to bake a cake, shake a collection tin, or get involved in any of our fundraising activities, we’d love to have you on board!
